As a Group Financial Accountant, you will play a critical role in managing the financial reporting and accounting functions across our Africa operations.

Job Summary

The Group Financial Accountant will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating financial reporting activities for the company’s group entities. This role will involve ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards and regulations, and providing support to management in making informed financial decisions. The successful candidate will collaborate with various stakeholders, including finance teams, auditors, and senior management, to maintain the integrity of financial information and enhance the efficiency of financial processes.

Responsibilities
  1. Financial Reporting: Prepare, review, and consolidate financial statements and reports for group entities in compliance with relevant accounting standards (e.g., IFRS, IAS). Ensure accuracy, completeness, and transparency of financial information. This includes inter-company accounting, forex, GL reviews, regional unit analysis and some consolidation.
  2. Consolidation and Intercompany Transactions: Manage the consolidation process for group entities, ensuring elimination of intercompany transactions and reconciliation of intercompany balances.
  3. Compliance and Regulations: Stay updated on accounting regulations and standards, ensuring compliance with local and international financial reporting requirements. Implement necessary controls to safeguard financial data integrity.
  4. Financial Analysis: Conduct financial analysis, including variance analysis, trend analysis, and key performance indicators (KPIs), to support decision-making processes and provide insights to management.
  5. Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the budgeting and forecasting processes, working closely with finance teams to ensure accurate and realistic financial plans.
  6. Internal Controls: Review and enhance internal control procedures, identifying areas for improvement and implementing best practices to minimize financial risks.
  7. Audit Coordination: Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits, ensuring timely completion and resolution of audit queries. Address any findings and recommendations from auditors.
  8. Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for streamlining financial processes, implementing automation, and enhancing efficiency in financial reporting.
  9. Projects Review & Reporting – Carry out project reviews for key projects as well as general overview of regional unit performance, including individual projects, to ensure accurate project reporting and risk mitigation.
  10. Performance Management – Setting and tracking performance targets for regional units to ensure that set objectives are met and deviations are mitigated. 
  11. Pricing – Participate in the creation and review of pricing tools as well as involvement in the pricing for select, significant contracts/bids.
  12. Team Leadership: Provide guidance and support to junior team members, fostering their professional growth and ensuring high-quality work output.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional certification such as ACCA, or CIMA is highly desirable.
  • Several years of relevant experience in financial accounting, preferably in a multinational company.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in financial consolidation processes and experience with complex group structures.
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to interpret financial data for decision-making.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and familiarity with accounting software and ERP systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with stakeholders at various levels.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proactive mindset, with a focus on process improvement and efficiency.
